Berlin, Frankfort Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing and his officials prevailed against Deutsche Bahn AG – at least when it came to the traffic light code word for a major railway project. “Infra-Go” is the name of the ministry’s new creation.

Behind this is an agreement in the coalition agreement of the traffic light. The SPD, the Greens and the FDP want to set up a new “infrastructure company geared towards the common good” that will manage the rail network, the train stations and the many workshops.

The new company should not aim for any profits, unlike previously under the umbrella of Deutsche Bahn AG. Bahn managers had internally abbreviated the project to “GOI”.

But the code word is the smallest problem in this mammoth project. The much bigger question is how much the federal government will soon be able to get involved in infrastructure. Will he be in charge of the rail network in the future? Or determined as before the state company?
