Tempted by Tempur-Pedic? Here’s Our Review of Its Most Popular Pillows

Originally created for astronauts in the 1960’s, the Tempur-Pedic spongy foam has made the brand a household name. You’ll now find the ~out of this world~ material in its lineup of products — including its many pillows.

But if all of these pillows are made with the same material, then what’s the difference between all of them? And which one should you buy?! Why does choosing a pillow have to feel like rocket science? 😩

That’s where we come in. Read on to find our reviews of Tempur-Pedic’s nine most popular pillows, plus some tips for choosing the best one for you.

Best Tempur-Pedic pillows

Pros and cons of Tempur-Pedic pillows

Here are some pros and cons to consider before you decide to spring for a Tempur-Pedic pillow:

Pros of Tempur-Pedic pillows

  • You’ve got options. Tempur-Pedic offers a wide range of options — from softer, shredded foam-filled pillows to firm (and heavy AF) options.
  • Special features. There are cooling options for people who sleep hot and supportive ergonomic shapes for people with neck pain. One pillow is also adjustable for extra customized comfort.
  • Solid warranty and shipping policies. Tempur-Pedic offers a 5-year warranty on all its pillows and all pillows ship free via UPS Ground.

Cons of Tempur-Pedic pillows

  • High cost. These pillows are pricey — most are over $100 and the cheapest option is $69.
  • Better for back and side sleepers. With only one soft (adjustable) option, there aren’t a lot of options for stomach sleepers looking for soft, near-flat pillows.
  • No return policy. You can’t return any of Tempur-Pedic’s pillows, so make sure you’re 100 percent sure before buying.

Best Tempur-Pedic pillows

Best value Tempur-Pedic pillow

Tempur-Cloud Pillow

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Pillow
  • Price: $89
  • Height: 5 inches (overall size slightly smaller than a queen)
  • Firmness options: extra soft
  • Materials: polyester knit cover, Tempur material fill

Tempur-Pedic calls this its most popular pillow and it’s also the cheapest on our list. It doesn’t have different size, height, or firmness options, but reviewers write glowing reviews about how comfy it is and how much it helps with neck pain.

We tried this pillow ourselves and def agree with reviewers. It’s one of Tempur-Pedic’s softer pillows — but it’s still a solid foam, so it’s not squishy soft like you’d get with an extra-soft feather pillow.

It’s a great pick for anyone who wants to find a happy medium between adequate neck support and a marshmallowy feel. It’s also a good pick if you’re really into trying a Tempur-Pedic pillow, but don’t have tons of cash to drop on one.

Best Tempur-Pedic pillow for side sleepers

Tempur-Cloud Pro Pillow

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Pro Pillow
  • Price: $149
  • Height: 5.75 (Lo) or 6.5 inches (Med, Hi)
  • Firmness options: extra soft (Lo), soft (Med), medium (Hi)
  • Materials: knit cover, Tempur material fill

Tempur-Pedic gives you hella options for this pillow. You can choose “Lo,” “Med,” or “Hi” — and each option is supposed to have a different feel and work best for different sleeping positions and body types.

We picked this for side sleepers because the “Med” and “Hi” options are 6.5 inches tall, which is tall enough to keep your head supported when you’re sleeping on your side.

People with smaller body frames will prob find the “Med” option comfier (it’s softer, so it’s a little shorter when you’re lying on it), and people with larger body frames will likely get more support from the “Hi.”

Best cooling Tempur-Pedic pillow

Tempur-Cloud Breeze Dual Cooling Pillow

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Breeze Dual Cooling Pillow
  • Price: $189
  • Height: 6.4 inches
  • Firmness options: medium
  • Materials: quilted cotton cover, Tempur-Breeze Gel layer, Tempur material fill

Who here flips their pillow 42 times a night to get to the cooler side? (us, too).

This pillow has a gel layer on both sides that feels cold to the touch (seriously, when we tested it, it almost felt like it came out of the fridge??).

While we love the chilly feel of this one, it’s also pretty tall, firm, and HEAVY. It’s a good pick for side and back sleepers, but stomach sleepers and people that like a little squish should (unfortunately) steer clear.

Best Tempur-Pedic pillow for neck pain

Tempur-Neck Pillow

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Neck Pillow
  • Price: $109 (smaller than a queen)
  • Height: 3.5 (small), 4 (medium), or 4.75 (large) inches
  • Firmness options: firm
  • Materials: Tempur material, polyester knit cover

We picked this pillow for people with neck pain because it’s got that classic, contoured shape and is available in the right height options for neck support.

Evidence suggests that pillows 10 centimeters tall (about 4 inches) are best for maintaining the natural curve in the necks of back sleepers and reducing neck muscle activity in side sleepers — and the Tempur-Neck pillow’s medium size option is 4 inches tall (woot!).

Keep in mind that that’s not a hard and fast rule, though. It’s totally possible you find something shorter or taller to be a better fit for easing your neck pain.

We tried this pillow and def thought it was supportive, but it’s also a little bit stiff. It’s not nearly as heavy as some of Tempur-Pedic’s other pillows, which is a plus if you tend to toss and turn and take your pillow with you as you do it.

Psst: Apparently you’re supposed to sleep with the higher end of the pillow near your shoulders.

Most unique Tempur-Pedic pillow

Tempur-Down Precise Support Pillow

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Down Precise Support Pillow
  • Price: $169
  • Height: 7.88 inches
  • Firmness options: medium
  • Materials: 500 thread count cover, down fill, Tempur material core

Struggling to decide between a firm, supportive pillow and a luxuriously soft down pillow? This pillow might be a good solve for you because it’s kinda both. Hear us out.

A solid foam core surrounded by down filling makes this pillow feel soft and supportive at the same time. Reviewers say this pillow is the perfect mix of comfy and supportive — with some even saying it’s straight up heavenly.

Out of all of Tempur-Pedic’s pillows, this pillow would work best for stomach sleepers because its down filling gives it a softer, squishier feel. But remember that the solid inner core *might* make it too tall.

Best Tempur-Pedic pillow for combination sleepers

Tempur-Symphony Pillow

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Symphony Pillow
  • Price: $119 (for smaller than a queen)
  • Height: 5 inches
  • Firmness options: soft
  • Materials: machine-washable polyester cover, Tempur-material fill

This pillow works for combo sleepers because it’s specifically designed to support different sleeping positions depending on what side you use. The brand says the rounded side is better for back sleepers and the flat side works best for stomach and side sleepers.

When we tried it, we thought the rounded side was actually comfier for side sleeping because the pillow nudges up into your shoulder, adding a little support.

But TBH everyone is different, so you can experiment to find the shape and position that feels comfiest to you. Just flip it however you want and find the shape that feels comfiest to you.

Best Tempur-Pedic pillow for stomach sleepers

Tempur-Cloud Adjustable Pillow

Tempur-Cloud Adjustable Pillow
  • Price: $69
  • Height: 5.4 inches (adjustable)
  • Firmness options: medium-soft
  • Materials: polyester knit cover, Tempur-blend fill

This pillow is the softest option in Tempur-Pedic’s lineup, making it the best choice for our belly sleepers. The coolest part about it is that it’s actually adjustable, so you can add or remove fill based on what you find the comfiest — whether you like to conk out like a face-down starfish or you’re comfier in the fetal position.

Keep in mind that pillows with shredded foam fills are usually less supportive than solid foam pillows, but some people LOVE the plush softness they bring to the table.

Reviewers love the ability to customize the pillow’s firmness and say it’s super comfortable. Bummer though that it doesn’t come in king size — you can only enjoy customizable comfort in a single size that fits standard or queen pillowcases.

Best Tempur-Pedic pillow for neck support

Tempur-Ergo Cooling Pillow

Tempur-Ergo Cooling Pillow
  • Price: $149
  • Height: 4 inches
  • Firmness options: firm
  • Materials: washable cover, cooling gel, Tempur-material fill

Need some TLC for your neck? This supportive, ergonomic pillow will cradle your neck and keep your spine in alignment. Because of its firm feel, it’s ideal for back and side sleepers.

And it’s equipped with cooling materials, which is kinda important for a pillow that you can’t really flip to the cooler side (the ergonomic shape is only on one side of this bad boy). That also makes it an A+ pick for hot sleepers.

Reviewers seem to agree that it’s hella supportive and helps limit neck kinks. The downside? Like the adjustable pillow, it’s one-size-fits-all.

Best gel foam Tempur-Pedic pillow

Tempur-Cloud Cooling Pro Pillow

Tempur-Cloud Cooling Pro Pillow
  • Price: $189
  • Height: 5 (Lo) or 6.6 (Hi) inches
  • Firmness options: medium
  • Materials: washable cover, cooling gel, Tempur-material fill

This gel-infused pillow offers that just-right comfort that Goldilocks was searching for — except you don’t need to deal with angry bears or commit a crime to get it.

Depending on your fave sleeping position and personal preference, you can choose between “Lo” and “Hi” loft levels — 5.5 or 6 inches. The “Lo” version is a better choice for back sleepers or people with smaller body frames and the “Hi” version is a good pick for side sleepers or people with larger body frames. Both options are prob too tall for stomach sleepers.

Two layers of cooling gel help keep you comfy even when temps soar.

Reviewers appreciate that the pillow stays cool and provides support without being overly firm. Plus, the Tempur material has a knack for springing back right into place. And the pillow is available in both queen and king sizes.

How to choose a Tempur-Pedic pillow

Most Tempur-Pedic pillows are best for back and side sleepers looking specifically for foam pillows with good pressure relief. They’re also best for folks that are willing to spend a pretty penny to upgrade their bedding.

But how to choose between all of the pillows Tempur-Pedic has to offer?! Here’s what you’ll need to consider.

Type and materials

Basically, all of Tempur-Pedic’s pillows are made using their “Tempur Material” — which is that soft foam you prob remember from those old commercials with the glass of wine.

Most pillows are also solid foam (rather than shredded), which means they’re heavier, taller, and firmer than other types of pillows. This combo is typically a side or back sleeper’s paradise. But if it isn’t your cup of tea, you might want to consider shopping elsewhere.

Tempur-Pedic also offers the Tempur-Down pillow that has a layer of down feathers surrounding a foam core and the Tempur-Cloud Adjustable with shredded foam fill. These are both softer options — so they might work better for stomach sleepers — but that also means they might not be quite as supportive as the solid all-foam pillows.

In terms of covers, all pillows either have a polyester or cotton cover. Tempur-Pedic pillow covers are removable and machine washable, which is a major plus for keeping your pillow feelin’ fresh.

Firmness

Even Tempur-Pedic’s “extra soft” pillows are pretty firm, but there’s still some variation in firmness from pillow to pillow.

If you’re looking for something seriously hard, you should check out the Tempur-Neck or Tempur-Ergo Neck pillow. If you want something with a little squish to it, consider the Tempur-Cloud, Tempur-Cloud Adjustable, or Tempur-Cloud Pro pillows.

Want something in between? The Tempur-Down pillow is supposed to give you the best of both worlds.

Temperature regulation

If you tend to sleep hot, you’ll def want to check out Tempur-Pedic’s cooling pillows.

Foam in general has a tendency to trap body heat, so Tempur-Pedic’s regular pillows might make you feel even hotter than usual. But pillows with gel layers should help prevent that.

Loft

No. We’re not talking about a cool apartment in the city. Loft refers to pillow height. Basically, how fluffy is that mofo? And what height is right for you? Let’s break it down:

  • High loft. This is the skyscraper of pillows. They’re ideal for side sleepers. The foam helps keep your head and neck in a neutral position. Skip a high loft if you’re a stomach or back sleeper.
  • Medium loft. This is the middle ground of pillow fluffiness and can be a good option for back sleepers or side sleepers with smaller body frames.
  • Low loft. Tummy sleepers typically do better with a flatter pillow. Too much height can put a kink in your neck. Aim for something that’s near flat to make sure you’re not kicking your neck out of a neutral position while you’re in dreamland.

Price

All of Tempur-Pedic’s pillows require a good amount of cash. If your budget is on the lower end, your options will be a little limited.

Heart set on a pricey pillow? Watch out for sales and deals on Tempur-Pedic’s and other retailers’ sites.

Company policies

Okay people think the pillows are rad, but how does Tempur-Pedic stack up when it comes to its company policies?

Here’s a quick rundown of the brand’s policies:

  • free shipping throughout the U.S.
  • no trial period (boo!)
  • no returns unless your pillow is damaged or defective (yikes!)
  • 5-year limited warranty — but make sure to hold onto that receipt

Tempur-Pedic has logged over 500 customer complaints on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website. But, the good news is that they’ve responded to most of them in an attempt to make things right. Most of the issues have to do with trouble with the warranty and returning products.

Where to buy Tempur-Pedic pillows

Tempur-Pedic pillows are widely available and you can snag one directly from their website, Amazon, Wayfair, Bed Bath & Beyond, and many other retailers.

Try looking at a few retailers before buying — you might be able to find sales, deals, or better return policies than Tempur-Pedic offers.

The bottom line

Tempur-Pedic doesn’t accept returns on any of their pillows, so it’s important to be extra sure of your decision before getting too temp-ted to purchase.
