The budget chain’s chocolate-covered bug cake is called Chris — and at £4.50 it’s half the price of the £9 M&S favourite.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s own versions – Slinky and Wiggles — are currently £7 each.

M&S reached a High Court deal with Aldi last year following a copyright battle.

Aldi has changed the appearance of Cuthbert, but has since poked fun at M&S with a tongue-in-cheek TV commercial referencing the fracas.
