South Korean prosecutors are looking for Kwon on fraud charges. Authorities in Singapore, where Terra’s headquarters are located, are also investigating Kwon’s actions. On Thursday, a federal grand jury in New York indicted Kwon on eight counts of securities fraud and other charges.

Kwon waited for nearly an hour while the Montenegrin police searched his luggage. When Belgian identity papers were found, Kwon was detained and taken off the plane with a business partner named Han Chang-joon.

According to the Montenegrin Interior Ministry, the two were taken to the prosecutor’s office in the small Balkan country’s capital Thursday night, where they were accused of forgery and traveling with a false passport.

“A check by NCB INTERPOL Costa Rica revealed that the documents were forged,” the Montenegrin Interior Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The ministry also announced that Belgian travel documents, which were “hidden” among Kwon’s belongings, were also found to be fake by Interpol officials in Brussels.

Branko Anđelić, who represents Kwon and Han as a lawyer, told local media that they denied the charges.

Kwon and Han were taken to the Podgorica Main Court on Friday to appear before the investigating judge.

Meanwhile, South Korean prosecutors left for Montenegro to press for the extradition of Kwon and Han.

When asked about the possible extradition process in a phone call, Kwon’s lawyer Anđelić said:

“No such thing was discussed. Who wants them? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Can you share it with me?”
