With his words about the sick side of the dazzling model industry, fashion icon Wolfgang Joop (76) caused a stir. And it fires the fact that young models in particular can very quickly end up in an abuse swamp.
How abusive was and is the industry? About it now unpacks someone who was super successful in the 90s: Dany Michalski (45).
At the age of 12 she had her first photo jobs and was a well-known advertising face in the USA in the early 90s (including campaigns for “Guess”). It ran for Calvin Klein, with Kate Moss and for Lagerfeld, and as a German she graced many magazine covers (including “Cosmopolitan”).
“I didn’t notice it until years later. I know the situations … ”says Dany today. How men sneaked around young models, how she herself was harassed by a photographer – and the offers with which the girls were lured.
