Daniel Stelter on climate policy and the moon landing

Dusseldorf This week there was a lot of talk about the future, about new beginnings – and about how the new federal government wants to rebuild the country. “Dare to make more progress” is written above the new coalition agreement. But what do the plans of the new traffic light coalition really mean for innovation, growth and the future of this country?

Handelsblatt editor-in-chief discussed this this week with the economist Daniel Stelter, who was a consultant at BCG in his previous life – most recently he was part of the international management team of the consulting company. Then he got out, wrote several bestsellers and is a columnist – including for the Handelsblatt. In his podcast “Beyond the obvious”, Stelter also discusses current economic topics with the most well-known economic experts in the country every week.

Stelter sees numerous positive approaches in the coalition agreement. But he also warns that Germany will face a few difficult decisions in the next few years. In particular, the skilled labor crisis and demographic change could lead to dramatic losses in growth if politics does not change course. Stelter even thinks climate policy is too small. From his point of view, the moon landing project must become a model here.
