Corona-News: Lauterbach considers easing to be possible from mid-February – Karagiannidis: seeing the “omicron effect” in intensive care units

According to a survey, despite the rapidly increasing number of infections, fear of the corona virus in Germany has decreased significantly. According to the ZDF “Politbarometer”, 70 percent of those surveyed still consider “Corona and the consequences” to be the most important problem, however now only 42 percent see their health at risk from the virus. Two weeks ago it was 53 percent. In the meantime, from the point of view of many experts, it is becoming increasingly clear that an infection with the highly contagious omicron variant triggers a rather mild course of the disease in many cases.

Satisfaction with the currently applicable corona measures has increased, according to the “Politbarometer” from 44 to 49 percent. Only 25 percent of those surveyed think that the measures should be tougher (minus 5), while 23 percent (plus 1) think they are excessive. A clear majority is optimistic about the situation in the hospitals: 74 percent believe that the hospitals can cope with the expected, sharply increasing number of infections caused by the omicron wave (not cope: 23 percent).

Most citizens are convinced that there is no end in sight to the pandemic. A good fifth of those surveyed (21 percent) believe that the corona pandemic will by and large be over in Germany after the Omikron wave, 75 percent assume that there will be further waves with new virus variants and high case numbers after Omikron .
