Dusseldorf The price jumps in food lead to clear reactions from consumers. They are forced to spend more on their groceries. But they also switch to cheaper brands – and sometimes even go on buyer’s strikes for individual products.

As a survey by the market research company POS-Pulse shows, inflation is hitting customers hard. More than 98 percent of those surveyed stated that the prices in their supermarket were higher than last year.

Word has gotten around that cooking oil has become more expensive as a result of the Ukraine war. This was also confirmed by 87 percent of the 715 respondents. But other categories are only slightly behind.

81 percent stated that they would now have to spend more on dairy products, i.e. on cheese, yoghurt or butter. The situation is similar for meat with 79 percent mentions and flour with 72 percent. But fruit, vegetables, fish and confectionery have also become noticeably more expensive.
