Dusseldorf Despite all efforts to expand renewable energies: The unexpectedly fast and strong upturn in the world economy is causing the demand for coal, oil and gas to skyrocket this year. “The enormously encouraging dynamism of the world in the field of renewable energies is colliding with the stubborn predominance of fossil fuels in our energy systems,” warns Fatih Birol, head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), on the occasion of the new World Energy Outlook published on Wednesday.
“This is the main reason why we will see the second strongest increase in CO2 emissions in history in 2021,” the experts write. The record prices for coal, oil and gas could become a problem for the climate change.
