Citi separates from investment bank boss Peter Kimpel

Citi has strengthened its investment banking activities across Europe with big names in recent months.

Frankfurt The previous Citi investment banking boss in Germany, Peter Kimpel, left the US investment bank at the end of March. This emerges from an internal memo from the US money house, which is available to the Handelsblatt. In the future, his tasks will be taken over by different people.

Citi declined to comment and Kimpel was initially unavailable. As several former companions report, Kimpel is said not to have fulfilled the expectations placed in him. Among other things, the style he brought with him from the start-up financier Rocket Internet did not always get along with the rather bureaucratic structure of the global banking group.

The former Goldman Sachs partner Kimpel was CFO of the Berlin investor Rocket Internet from 2014 to 2018 and had helped organize the IPO there – at the time, with a volume of 1.6 billion euros, the largest of the year.
