The first of China’s solar and wind power plants on deserts became active recently. The new facility, which has solar panels and wind turbines, will provide electricity to 1.5 million people.
The first phase of the solar and wind project has been set up in the Tenger Desert, located at the southern tip of the Gobi Desert. Established by Chine Energy, the facility has a power of 1 million kW. This important facility is expected to produce 1.5 billion kWh of energy per year. When the project, worth 85 billion yuan ($12.28 billion), is completed, its total power will reach 13 kW.

The Chinese government launched its renewable energy project on deserts at the end of 2021. The country, which has big plans in this regard, plans to install 100 GW of solar and wind energy facilities in arid areas covering 19 provinces in total.
China plans to obtain a significant amount of green energy with the facilities it has established in these areas that receive a lot of sun during the day. Today, when fossil fuels are abandoned, the Far East country, which is preparing to cover the deserts with solar panels and wind turbines, will thus significantly increase the rate of clean energy in the country’s energy production.
