Dusseldorf The political mood in Germany has turned: According to the preliminary final result, the SPD is ahead of the Union with 25.7 percent, which is historically the worst with 24.1 percent. According to the analysis, the CDU and CSU lost voters mainly to the Social Democrats. The two people’s parties are particularly popular with older voters. An overview of the most interesting numbers for the Bundestag election.
Voter migration
Instead of ticking the box like in 2017 with the Union, according to ARD analysis, 1.99 million voters voted for the SPD this year. But these are not the only losses, as the poll by the polling institute Infratest dimap shows: According to the Union, around 1.05 million voters went to the Greens. 1.32 million votes were cast to the FDP, other parties received 590,000 votes. 90,000 citizens who voted for the Left Party in 2017 now voted for the Union.
According to ARD, the Left Party lost the most votes to the Social Democrats: 820,000. Another 610,000 went to the Greens, 520,000 voters decided not to vote this year, 160,000 opted for the AfD instead of the Left Party, and 160,000 for the FDP.

According to the poll by the Wahlen research group, there is a remarkable difference between female and male voters in one party: The AfD scores significantly better with men (13 percent) than with women (eight percent). The FDP is also much more popular with voters (13 percent) than with women voters (ten percent).

In the case of the SPD and the Greens, according to the survey, it is exactly the other way around: for women, the Social Democrats get 27 percent and for men 24 percent, the party of Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck gets 17 percent for women and 14 percent for voters.
Age groups
There are also some interesting figures for the age groups: According to the Wahlen research group, the Union will lose its “Bastion 60plus” in the federal elections – the SPD’s success in this age group is particularly remarkable. With an increase of eleven percentage points to 35 percent, the Social Democrats are now on par with the Union.
In this age group, this lost seven percentage points to 34 percent – “in a highly relevant group that was a long-term guarantee of success for the C parties”. For all under 60-year-olds, where the SPD leads with 22 percent, the Greens are now at the same level as the Union (18 and 19 percent respectively). The Greens (22 percent) and Liberals (19 percent) are particularly popular among those under 30.
Occupational group
If you sort the first projections according to the occupational group, the following picture emerges: According to the research group Elections, the Union is particularly successful with the self-employed and civil servants (29 and 28 percent respectively). It is different with the Social Democrats: The SPD is particularly popular with blue-collar workers (29 percent) and salaried employees (27 percent).
Level of education
A look at the tendency to vote according to level of education: The Greens score strongly in the Wahlen research group among voters with a university degree (27 percent), whereas the SPD and Union do well among voters with a secondary school diploma (35 and 31 percent, respectively).
