The protests were declared illegal under the Emergencies Act, which was introduced by the country’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau. This law will be implemented for the first time since 1988.

Truckers have been protesting since late January against travel restrictions imposed by the Canadian government. As part of travel restrictions, all people entering the country will be required to have the COVID-19 vaccine. Reacting to the situation, truckers closed international bridges and border crossings in many Canadian cities.
