Buy or rent? Buying real estate in these regions is worthwhile

Frankfurt The decision to buy a house or to rent permanently is one of the most serious financial decisions in life. In view of rising rents and falling real estate prices in recent months, the question of whether it would not be better to buy a property yourself than to continue to transfer rent month after month is gaining weight again for many Germans.

It is a step that needs to be carefully considered – even if rents have recently risen faster than purchase prices.

Where is it worth buying? Where rather not? The experts at the Hamburg Institute for World Economics (HWWI) have calculated for the Postbank Wohnatlas in which regions it is cheaper to rent – and where you should consider becoming a real estate owner. The results, which are available to the Handelsblatt in advance, give an overview of the nationwide situation on the real estate market – and cause one or two surprises.
