Braun and Lauterbach warn: No carnival, no Christmas markets! – Domestic policy

Corona summit in the BILD talk “The right questions”! The most pressing question: does Germany expect a lockdown after all?

On Sunday evening, Chancellery chief Helge Braun (49, CDU), FDP vice-president Wolfgang Kubicki (69), SPD politician Karl Lauterbach (58) and CSU general Markus Blume (46) discussed it.

► First shock: when asked who can rule out a new lockdown, nobody raises their hand. Not even Kubicki!

The FDP had ruled out large-scale lockdowns. Kubicki explains: “What we cannot rule out: that the local authorities declare that shops will be closed, that schools will be closed.”

This does not go far enough for the Union – it wants to extend the “epidemic situation” (legal basis for lockdowns). “Team negligent”, complains Blume about the traffic light, whose party leader Markus Söder (54) sees himself as the head of the “Team Caution”. Blume called it a “serious mistake” to let the epidemic situation run out and thus “to give up a very important toolkit”.

► FDP Vice Kubicki does not want to put on the shoe, alludes to the high number of infections in Bavaria and fires in the direction of Munich: “I am thrilled that I get advice from people who document at home that they do not have the situation under control” .

Braun proposes a compromise to the FDP: The emergency will be extended. But: “We are removing the exit restrictions.”

But Kubicki does not want to know anything about other country or nationwide tough measures, insists on civil liberties.

Then it becomes concrete: Carnival alarm! “We are not allowed to hold any major events,” demands Braun in view of the record number of infections. The intensive care units in some parts of the country are already getting tight. Braun demanded bonuses for hospital employees, and at the same time warned: “At some point it will no longer be possible to pay for it even with money.”

About Christmas markets in Corona hotspots, Braun explains: “You can’t have a social life of this kind there!”

Lauterbach agrees: The carnival celebrations “could not have been carried out”. He called for a nationwide 2G rule and the 2G plus rule for events (vaccinated people and genesis are tested). Means: “That the unvaccinated can still take part in social life to the extent that they can meet privately, go to the doctor, go to the pharmacy or go shopping” and are excluded in all other areas (cafes, restaurants, etc.).

We are in a “crazy wave”, in a few weeks the intensive care units will be full.

That makes the FDP vice angry! Even if vaccinated people “have to stay at home, cannot go to any event”, politicians are sending the completely wrong signal: that vaccinations are of no use.
