Munich, Leipzig Almost nine years after the start of the electric car pioneer BMW i3, the group is now ending construction of the small car. Production in Leipzig will end at the end of June, a spokeswoman said on Friday in Munich. With the electric Mini and the BMW iX1, the group has new offers with great potential in this segment. The “Automobilwoche” had previously reported on it.

BMW has been building the i3 since September 2013 and has now sold almost a quarter of a million units. In the early years, demand was subdued – BMW was simply ahead of its time and had to be held up by shareholders and journalists for the subsidy business with the “shop keeper”.
