Although Steam, the leading game platform of the gaming world, has issued a ban stating that it will not allow such games, its rival Epic Games stated that it will open its doors to such games and game developers. This move by Epic Games could change the fate of blockchain-based games.

While Epic Games states that they do not use “crypto” in their games; stated that they would welcome innovation in the fields of technology and finance. Epic Games also stated that they want to work with early developers of blockchain-based games.
Epic Games admitted that “Monero” was mistakenly added to the acceptable currencies for V-Bucks, the in-game currency used in the Fortnite game in 2019, but that option was immediately removed and was never activated again.
Amy Wu, partner at venture capital firm Lightspeed, said on Twitter that Steam’s move is not surprising. “Web2 central platforms get their share of all the value generated from its ecosystem,” he said. “Blockchain circumvents this and distributes value back to developers and users.” he said. There is still no official explanation as to why Steam applied this ban.

The developer of Age of Rust, which was removed from the Steam platform, criticized Valve on Twitter and stated that he believed in the technology of the future of NFTs and blockchain games.
