Recently, the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) elected Bitcoin supporter Ontario Member of Parliament Pierre Poilievre as the new leader of the party.
Poilievre, who received more than 68% of the votes, was well ahead of his closest rival, former Quebec Prime Minister Jean Charest, who received 16% of the votes.
Poilievre not only outdistanced its closest rival, but also became the first-choice candidate in every constituency across Canada.
As the new leader of the CPC, Poilievre is poised to challenge current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to lead Canada in the 2025 federal election.
This means Canadians may soon have the opportunity to elect a pro-Bitcoin prime minister.
Earlier this year, Poilievre said, “The government is destroying the Canadian dollar, so Canadians have Bitcoin and crypto- coins should have the freedom to use it,” he said.
The pro-BTC party leader had bought at least $10,000 worth of stock from a company called Purpose Bitcoin, which operates as a Bitcoin investment fund in Canada.
Poilievre states that he wants to make Canada the blockchain capital of the world at every opportunity.
Like most BTC users, Polievre has a cold view of fiat currencies. For this reason, it reacts very harshly to the Bank of Canada because it cannot control inflation.
He also says that if he is elected to the post of prime minister, he will dismiss the head of the central bank and supervise the activities of the bank.
