Becoming a software developer without training: Here’s how

The no-code and low-code techniques are in demand.

Berlin Until now, anyone who wanted to become a software developer had to be able to program. Developers are usually highly qualified specialists who often had to study for years to master the necessary programming languages. With the help of no-code and low-code applications, laypersons, known as citizen developers, can now also participate in the production of software.

“These positions do not require any IT training,” says Frank Termer, Head of Software at the Bitkom industry association. Programming knowledge is not or hardly necessary. Because programmers are in demand – and many positions cannot currently be filled because there is a lack of qualified personnel.

The technology is in demand, as figures from the US market research company Gartner show. The global market volume for low-code platforms is 13.8 billion euros, and by 2024 more than 65 percent of all software programs will be based on low-code. How does the technology work?
