Frankfurt Bayer is ceasing all “non-essential business” in Russia and Belarus in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. All spending not related to the provision of essential products in the areas of health and agriculture would be stopped, the agri-pharmaceutical group announced on Monday.

This includes the suspension of all advertising and other advertising measures and the stop of investment projects indefinitely. In addition, Bayer no longer wants to pursue new business opportunities in the two countries.

However, the group does not plan to stop deliveries completely: “Withholding essential health and agricultural products from the civilian population – such as those used to treat cancer or cardiovascular diseases, health products for pregnant women and children, and seeds for growing food – would result in the number of human lives , which this war demands, only multiply.”

Bayer has already provided farmers in Russia with “essential” inputs for the 2022 growing season. However, the group will monitor the political situation closely and will decide on deliveries for 2023 and beyond at a later date – depending on how Russia proceeds.
