This is how the system works, acting as a sort of hub of ideas for Audi’s wheel design team. Able to quickly switch between various designs, FelGAN allows designers to easily experiment with shape, color, surface structure and other parameters in real time.
Another benefit of FelGAN is that the software assigns a mathematical value to every design the AI makes. These values, referred to as “DNA” by the developers, allow designs to be reused at any time.
More often than not, designers only consider individual items from FelGAN’s creations. The experts, who have made them into a harmonious overall design, literally symbolize the collaboration between machine and human. Plastic or aluminum examples of designs created in this way are created using a high-tech milling machine.
In the future, the technology behind FelGAN may evolve into a comprehensive artificial intelligence design platform by being evaluated by designers from other Audi departments. This platform, which is growing day by day with the contributions of designers, may become much more capable in the future.
