Australia: 5 children after “Squid Game” game in the hospital – TV

Another bad incident in which a child watched the series “Squid Game” imitated and was hurt!

A teenager (14) suffered severe burns in Sydney while attempting a challenge inspired by the Netflix hit.

It was sheer boredom that made Aiden Higgie try the so-called sugar cookie game from “Squid Game”. Actually, that’s not dangerous at all. But with the teenager it was extremely unhappy …

The game shown in the series consists of making a thin sheet of sugar, punching a shape in it, and finally scraping it out with a needle. The difficulty: the shape must not break when it is removed.

Like teenagers around the world, Aiden tried to make the cookies using a recipe he found on TikTok: put water, baking soda, and sugar in a plastic cup, then put everything in the microwave.

The teen’s fatal mistake: He let the mixture melt in a non-microwave-safe mug. According to “DailyMail” the jar exploded – and the hot, melted sugar ran down Aiden’s legs.

His mother Helen Higgie to the Daily Telegraph: “It boiled to an incredible temperature, and when he took out the mug it exploded in his hand.”

The mother further describes the incident: “He burned his hand, and because sugar and plastic melted together, it ran down from his knee to his shin and stuck and kept burning and burning and burning.”

The burns were so severe that doctors initially feared that Aiden would need a skin graft. But luck in misfortune: The injury heals well by itself. But the boy will have to wear a pressure bandage for a long time.

Now Aiden is warning other children: They shouldn’t try the sugar game – and if they do, only under the supervision of their parents.

Fifth case in Australia

▶ ︎ Aidan is one of three children who were admitted to Westmead Children’s Hospital last month with burns after trying to make the Sugar Biscuit.

Dr. La Hei from the clinic said he was also aware of two other cases in Australia – one in Perth and one in Melbourne.

If a child is burned, the burn should be held under cool running water for 20 minutes. All clothing and jewelry should be removed.

If the burn is bigger than a one-euro piece or the parents have concerns, go to the doctor!

This is how the challenge goes in the series

The Sugar Cookie Game is the second game in “Squid Game”. The players have to choose one of four symbols at the beginning – without knowing what to expect afterwards. The choices are: triangle, circle, umbrella, star.

Then the participants have to scrape out their chosen shape from a round caramel plate with a needle – without breaking it. Depending on the symbol, a lot of tact is required.

The main character of the series, Seong Gi-hun, pulls the umbrella with a handle that is difficult to scratch. The participants have 10 minutes to scratch out the respective symbol with the needle. Whoever fails – that means breaks the shape or takes too long to stick it out undamaged – pays with his life …
