Frankfurt, Tokyo Stocks in Asia were initially higher and oil prices fell as Asian markets opened on Monday. Investors were hoping for progress in the peace talks scheduled for today, despite ongoing fighting in Ukraine. The Tokyo stock exchange initially showed itself stronger on Monday.
The Nikkei index, which comprises 225 values, was 0.7 percent higher at 25,337 points. The broader Topix index rose 0.9 percent to 1816 points. The Shanghai stock exchange was down 1.2 percent. The index of the most important companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen lost 1.6 percent.
