The Synthetic Memories project is an initiative of Domestic Data Streamers that aims to change the way we remember the important moments of our lives. This project uses artificial intelligence to permanently display unphotographed memories.
Using data from a person’s brain and artificial intelligence models, the team managing the project can create a lifelike memory photo depicting the event. This photo provides a view of the event that appears to have been captured in real time.

The photos use models like the DALL-E 2, which are older AI models, which means some flaws may be present in the photos. But the project team believes that these older models capture aspects of memories that are sometimes blurry and vague, where we don’t remember the finer details.
One of the final works of the project deals with the memories of 84-year-old Maria. Maria, who lives in Barcelona, shared with the team vivid memories of trying to visit her father in prison.
Using data from Maria’s mind, a memory photo was created of her on the balcony where she tried to see her father. The founder of Domestic Data Streamers states that this photo represents the right memory because it got a very real reaction from Maria.
