Berlin Bernd Slaghuis has many clients in his Cologne coaching practice. Anyone who visits him faces various career hurdles. It’s about the next step in your career, salary negotiations, management and team problems or professional crises.

The client who approached him recently had just signed a contract for a new job. The fact that she came to him was initially nothing unusual for Slaghuis: contract details and framework conditions are a reason for many to consult him again as an expert. This client, however, was still struggling with the hasty application process: Immediately after the second interview, a half-hour zoom call, the company emailed her the contract offer.

The woman had a second offer, so she asked for time to think about it. But the future boss was pressed for time. So she signed. The problem: Her decision had been hasty – the job wasn’t actually the right one for her.
