Apple Vision Pro Facing Name Change

Apple introduced the long-awaited AR/VR headset Vision Pro at its event last week. This title offers a unique experience by blending digital content with the physical space around users. Vision Pro controlled by eye, hand and voiceIt is seen as one of Apple’s most ambitious products.

However, the Vision Pro’s name has been the subject of controversy due to another company’s trademark claim. Apple applied in China to use the Vision Pro name, but this application was rejected. The reason for the rejection is another technology giant, of Huawei having already registered this name.

What will Apple do? Did Huawei do this on purpose?

Huawei registered the “Vision Pro” trademark on May 16, 2019, long before Apple’s announcement. Trademark protection granted to Huawei, Covers a ten-year period from November 28, 2021 to November 27, 2031. This brand falls under International Classification 9, which covers a variety of goods and services such as LCD TVs, head-worn virtual reality devices and radio equipment.

It is an important point here that Huawei’s registration of the “Vision Pro” trademark does not specifically target Apple. Huawei does indeed have an existing product line with this name. Huawei had previously launched two products branded “Vision”: Vision Glass, the first smart viewing glasses, and Huawei Vision smart display series.

As of now, Huawei has not made any official announcements regarding the development or release of mixed reality (MR) headset products. It is not yet clear whether Apple will continue to use the Vision Pro name. The company may appeal the decision in China or choose a different name for the Chinese market.
