Dusseldorf, Berlin As a person who generally could not distinguish between desire and reality or willfully ignored reality: This is how the Munich public prosecutor describes the long-standing Wirecard CEO Markus Braun in their indictment. The longtime boss vehemently rejects all allegations. The Handelsblatt has taken a look at the indictment and gets to the bottom of the details of the allegations with the help of exclusive material from internal communication at Wirecard.

Part of the allegations is Braun’s behavior during a special test, which could have ended the spook around Wirecard earlier. The Group commissioned this special audit on October 31, 2019. Today, both the then Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Thomas Eichelmann, and Markus Braun claim to have taken the initiative to take this step.
