Algorand (ALGO) John Woods, CTO of the Foundation, responded to Cyber Capital’s criticism of Justin Bons that Algorand is “centralized and permissioned”. Woods acknowledged some “critical views” but argued that the chain is still decentralized or permissionless.

“Even though consensus is driven through permissionless “participation nodes”, “relay nodes” are handpicked by the foundation, which makes them permissioned!”
According to Bons, because relays are “sole responsible for the distribution of blocks”, they can act as “the access controller for the entire system.”
In another tweet, Bons stated that for Algorand, “complete decentralization is only a few relatively minor code changes away.” However, he believes that the current state of Blockchain may force “relay nodes” to comply with the OFAC sanctions list, as we saw with Ethereum.
Algorand Foundation CTO Woods, while rejecting Bons’ main arguments, also taking into account some of the current failures of the chain, “It is vital to be able to consider and accept critical views!” said.
