“AI will bring a change as big as the invention of the steam engine”

Dusseldorf Shortly before the beginning of the technology fair “South by Southwest” (SXSW) in Austin, Silicon Valley correspondent Stephan Scheuer speaks with futurologists Amy Webb and Christina von Messling from New York’s “Future Today Institute”. Once a year, the institute publishes a major report on the most important tech trends of the coming year, which attracts a great deal of international attention.

In the podcast, the researchers give an exclusive insight into the report: “AI will bring about such a big change as the invention of the steam engine,” says Webb.

She is convinced: The technology behind the chatbot ChatGPT will cover all areas of knowledge work within the next 18 to 24 months and expand jobs like a digital co-pilot.

According to the scientists, biotechnology will also change massively in the next few years. In the distant future, robots could emerge that move through the body and develop therapies. Gene therapy will also change in order to be able to cure diseases such as cancer.

Webb also explains to what extent robots will change the future of work and why, in her view, autonomous driving is still a long way off.
