🧵 on the Rainbow Bridge attack today.
TL;DR: attack was stopped automatically, no bridged funds lost, attacker lost some money, bridge architecture was designed to resist such attacks, additional measures to be taken to ensure the cost of an attack attempt is increased— Alex Shevchenko 🇺🇦 (@AlexAuroraDev) May 1, 2022
The famous CEO, who also shared the attacker’s ETH address in his Twitter series, also conveyed how the attack was stopped.
The attacker initially bridged the ETH he laundered via Tornado Cash, where he deposited money to become one of the Rainbrow bridge’s validators.
The attacker, who aimed to create a completely fake side-block operation in the attack, was detected by a security unit and it was realized that the block was not in the NEAR network.
With this measure, NEAR definitely seems to have strengthened its place in the history of cryptocurrencies.
