For Kristin Brinker, who was elected AfD leader in March, it was a real test: because her predecessors had failed to hold several party congresses, the party was facing a real marathon in June.
A state list for the House of Representatives had to be drawn up, an election program passed and – also a day-filling task – the delegates for the AfD federal party conference in December had to be determined. The mission succeeded. Unorthodox but successful, Brinker organized the party congresses in a large tent on a meadow in Biesdorf.
Five months later, of all things, the election of party congress delegates, which until then had hardly been noticed by the public, caused a scandal. At its center is Beatrix von Storch, a prominent representative of the regional association.
Because, in the opinion of the party’s regional arbitration court, they had put three candidates for delegate posts on the electoral list, even though they had neither wanted to apply nor had done so, the court issued an interim order.
