Activision is preparing to close the case by paying $ 54 million

The company is preparing to settle the harassment case for approximately $54 million. The case, which highlighted the company’s workplace practices, was a key factor in Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which was approved in October after an 18-month legal battle.

In response to the agreement, an Activision Blizzard spokesperson issued a statement emphasizing the company’s commitment to addressing the issues raised in the agreement. The spokesperson stated that they are determined to implement fair wage and promotion policies and practices for all employees. As part of the settlement, Activision Blizzard will take steps to ensure fairer standards in compensation and promotion. The company will provide financial assistance to its female employees who work or are contract workers in California between October 12, 2015 and December 31, 2020.

In the lawsuit filed by the California Department of Civil Rights (CRD) in 2021, it was claimed that Activision Blizzard management deliberately ignored complaints about wage inequality, harassment and discrimination based on gender and sexuality. Activision Blizzard has consistently denied these allegations and stated that internal investigations found no basis for the accusations.

The agreement also includes withdrawing some allegations from the 2021 lawsuit. In the settlement, CRD acknowledged that no court or independent investigation had proven allegations of systematic or widespread sexual harassment at Activision Blizzard. The company’s board of directors, including CEO Robert Kotick, was also commended for not acting improperly in handling workplace misconduct cases.

Initially, the state of California wanted the amount Activision had to pay for its approximately 2,500 employees to be around $1 billion, but the company is avoiding the lawsuit with $54 million. What are you thinking? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
