With iOS 17, Apple replaced the “Hey Siri” command, with which you can activate the virtual assistant, with just “Siri”. While this was welcomed by the majority of users, it was an annoying situation for a woman named Siri. Here are the details…
The woman named Siri had to change her name
Apple first introduced the “Hey, Siri” command, used to summon the virtual assistant, with iOS 8 in 2014. With this feature, which aroused curiosity in those years, these two words are known even by Android users today.
Following long-leaked information, Apple replaced the “Hey Siri” command with “Siri”, a decision that left a question mark among users. Although this change was met with surprise, especially by iPhone users, it is starting to get used to it, as with everything else. But the word “Siri” turned into an ordeal for a woman.
A woman named Siri Price, who lives in Scotland, starts working as a voice assistant on all nearby iPhones whenever her friends call her. Moreover, Price, who is a sports coach and stated that his name is constantly mentioned due to his job, said that people who learned about the situation could not use his name and that he was constantly angry about this problem.
Of course, even if Siri does not carry her own iPhone with her, when someone calls her by name, nearby phones receive commands. This being the case, Siri eventually had to change its name to “You”. Thus, iOS forced someone to change their name for the first time.
An incident similar to this has occurred before. Whenever the name of a person named Alexa was spoken, Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant was activated. This person also had to change his name.
