Zurich, Dusseldorf “I couldn’t be happier to join Team Bayer.” That was the first message Bill Anderson shared on LinkedIn on Wednesday evening. On June 1st, the longstanding top manager of the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche will take over the CEO position at the Leverkusen-based group. He will then replace Werner Baumann as CEO after nine years.
Anderson will join Bayer’s board of directors in April. The American is only the second boss in the history of the Leverkusen team who is not recruited from within their own ranks – and the first who does not speak fluent German. But that was not an obstacle, according to Bayer circles. A globally experienced manager with proven expertise in biotechnology was deliberately selected. This is crucial for further development in medicine and in agricultural chemistry.
