Dusseldorf The statisticians in Wiesbaden have not seen this for 21 years: within three months, more precisely between April and June 2021, the price of condominiums and private homes rose by 10.9 percent nationwide compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

It is the largest price increase since the start of the time series in 2000, announced the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Friday. Compared to the first quarter of this year, the average increase was 3.7 percent.

A trend that has been observable for a long time continued in the second quarter of the year: In the meantime, residential property prices are no longer only rising in large cities, but also in the surrounding areas and in rural areas.

Another important finding: In the case of single and two-family houses, the gap between supply and demand is evidently widening. Homes became more expensive than condominiums in both large cities and rural regions.
