Berlin The industrial electricity price proposed by Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) divided the traffic light coalition. The FDP rejects him, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is also skeptical. The industry views this development with concern and calls for haste: “The supply of affordable electricity has dried up,” says Michael Niese, Managing Director of the German Metal Industry Association (WVM).
On the other hand, Ulrike Malmendier, economics expert and professor in Berkeley, warns that an industrial electricity price will always “only be the second-best solution”.
