Berlin On Monday evening, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) met confidentially in the Federal Chancellery. The three exchanged views on current topics, including the dispute over the 2024 federal budget.
This time, however, Habeck and Lindner talked to each other instead of blaming each other in letters. Habeck had informed Lindner in a letter last week that the Greens would “not accept” the basic budget values for the budget. Lindner replied that “surprised him”. After all, it is his job as finance minister to prioritize spending.
The unusual correspondence was the culmination of long-standing disputes between Habeck and Lindner. But it’s not just the two who fight each other, there are also conflicts between other ministers. These are the most important conflict couples:
