Berlin The Federal Network Agency is concretizing its plans in the event that there is no longer enough natural gas to supply all customers. A five-page paper published by the regulatory authority on Tuesday evening outlines the criteria by which decisions should be taken in the event of a gas emergency.
Under the heading “Weighing decision”, the paper states that the following criteria will be “considered in perspective” for shutdowns:
- the “urgency of the measure, in particular depending on the severity of the gas shortage situation”
- the “size of the plant and its gas supply and thus the effect of a gas supply reduction”
- the necessary “lead time for gas procurement reduction or an orderly shutdown of the production facilities”
- the “expected economic and business damage”
- the “Cost and duration of restarting after a gas supply reduction”
- the “importance for the supply of the general public”
In other words: The authority prefers shutdowns that have large savings effects with short lead times, the least possible damage and few restrictions on the supply of the population.
