5G Technology Campus Project from ITU, Turkcell and Ericsson

Signatures were signed for the 5G Technology Campus project, which was implemented in cooperation with Istanbul Technical University, Ericsson and Turkcell. The highlight of the event was the autonomous electric bus with 5G connection.

Turkey’s transition to 5G connection infrastructure continues. In this area Turkcell, Ericsson and Istanbul Technical University coming together “5G Technology Campus” reached an agreement for the project. At the signing ceremony fully electric, domestic and national 5G connected bus drew attention.

speaking at the ceremony Turkcell General Manager Ali Taha Koç, “The 5G test infrastructure that we have installed specifically for our university primarily provides high data speed, low latency and large connection capacity. Together, we will have the opportunity to evaluate and experience the outputs of these projects. One of the highlights of 5G is the autonomous vehicles that we all know very well. We are one of the first concrete steps of this cooperation. our autonomous bus We will experience it with you. Our goal is to both transfer the existing sensor data to the 5G network in the autonomous bus and to provide healthy remote driving that we have established within the ITU campus. The driver will no longer sit on the bus. The autonomous bus will be the first project to benefit from 5G test infrastructure. But many more projects will follow.” he said.

Koç also stated that they will take part in similar R&D projects in the coming years and will continue to develop the domestic ecosystem.

Ericsson: “Consider us a promoter of pioneering ideas”

Ericsson Türkiye General Manager Işıl Yalçın While he pointed out the advantages of high data speed and low latency with 5G, he stated that this technology can also have different areas of use. Yalçın also stated that they established a 5G-based independent network for R&D projects. Ericsson Türkiye General Manager, “I believe that we have created a dynamic and interactive platform for talent that will make improvements in many areas such as image and audio-based analytical scenarios, mobility and sustainability. We welcome Ericsson not only as a partner but also supporter of pioneering ideas I want them to see it as. We are here to enable our projects to take them to new dimensions by sharing our knowledge, experience and resources. “These innovative results will not only shape the future of technology in Turkey but will contribute to a sustainable and dynamic information and communications technology sector that resonates internationally.” He made a statement.

ITU Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu whereas “With this participation in the field of 5G, we will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of technologies that will determine the digital conditions of tomorrow, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and the internet of things. In addition, 5G technology campus our project It will also make a great contribution to our efforts towards autonomous vehicle technologies that will shape the future of the transportation and transportation industry. Combining autonomous transportation and 5G technology, this pioneering project offers a safe and efficient travel experience. In addition, 5G’s communication with buses or different autonomous vehicles increases safety by enabling environmental sensing systems to work more effectively.” he said.

Local and national autonomy at the event electric bus was also tested. The bus, which travels around the campus without a driver, attracted great attention. The vehicle detected pedestrians and braked, and also gave way to students at pedestrian crossings.
