Judge Allows Heather Morgan to Work in Bitfinex Hacking Incident

A judge on Friday granted Heather Morgan’s request to change her pre-trial release conditions so she can “hold a legitimate job and earn more than $10,000 a month.” Prosecutors in the case in federal court in Washington did not contest the request.

Morgan and her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, were arrested in February following the largest-ever US financial seizure operation. The following month, the couple requested the adjournment of the case to facilitate plea bargaining.

The US had previously said the couple had “extremely disturbing” overseas connections and access to hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency, along with fake identities. Bitcoin’s value has dropped more than 50% since the two were arrested at their Manhattan home.

Morgan and her husband were arrested in New York, charged with money laundering and conspiracy to defraud the United States, and face up to 25 years in prison if convicted. They were later released on bail. The US Department of Justice seized $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin in connection with the Bitfinex hack in 2016.

It was said that the other name of Heather Morgan was Reyhan and she was of Turkish origin.
