Dusseldorf Deutsche Bahn has recently been planting trees. When the company exceeded the target of 26,000 new hires for this year at the end of October, Human Resources Director Martin Seiler presented a beech seedling instead of flowers. By the end of the year, Seiler wants to hire 1,000 to 2,000 more people – everyone should have a tree.

Because the state-owned company has to grow. Seiler estimates that Deutsche Bahn will lose more than 70,000 skilled workers in the next five years due to old age. “The next few years will be crucial with a view to the future and the success of the traffic turnaround,” explains the manager in the Handelsblatt interview.

In order to cushion age-related departures and to build up additional staff, Seiler wants to hire a similar number of people in 2023 as this year. For applicants this means: good opportunities – and an even better basis for negotiating a good salary.
