In the years when there was no internet, computers, phones and tablets, when we waited for an hour to watch something on TV and ran to the computer as soon as the hour came, cartoons had a different flavor. We have compiled some of those cartoons for you.
In the past, it was not possible for children to spend hours watching YouTube or Netflix videos by holding a phone in their hands because neither these platforms nor these devices nor such an internet connection existed. At that time, the hours of cartoons were expected on television. The cartoons we watched in those years stayed with us. Let’s go on a time travel with these cartoons.
Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ninja Turtles, which is actually a pretty violent and self-contained comic book venture, has achieved massive fame. Especially the cartoon made the brand popular all over the world. He gave us a pleasant time, accompanied by rumors that “they did it to advertise pizza”.
Tsubasa
In this football anime from Japan, we were watching 10-year-old children playing sold-out matches in stadiums with thousands of people on the football field, which is kilometers long. We were trying to use techniques such as the eagle kick, and we were taking in all the balls coming from the air as we were trying to be goalkeepers with a hat. Tsubasa Messi was also in the continuation series for the World Cup. However, for many people, the king of hearts was Hyuga.
Candy Girl Candy
Tsubasa was aired one after the other with this anime where a cursed girl was the bane of anyone who showed any kind of love and attention to her. In the anime, something happens to everyone, somehow our sister Candy was always saved. We thought it was a cute kid too. Yet it had an impact on our childhood.
Pokémon
In Pokemon, which was the most popular production of the period, children had to fight wild animals they caught for money and fame. In the series that continues today, our digging friend Ash Ketchum found a girlfriend for the first time in 18 years and won the tournament. His pikachu was probably level 237 at this time, too. However, when we say Pikaçu’s cuteness and Charizard’s coolness, it has become a series that we love very much.
Moon Warrior
In this production, where a lively young girl transforms into a moon warrior and defeats some villains in each episode, we later learned that there are characters representing the planets. In fact, the production, which has a well-crafted mythology in the background, became very popular in our country, especially among girls.
Cedric
“Life is really hard if you are eight years old and in love,” said Cedric, and was the most sympathetic cartoon character of a time. Cedric, who said “my raisin cake” to his girlfriend, whom he could not open because of a grape allergy, took his place among the unforgettable with his romantic atmosphere.
Mischievous Dennis
It was a cartoon in which we witnessed the endless chaos created by a little blond boy and his dog. Dennis often got into trouble, especially with his neighbor. It was a cartoon that gave the audience hours of fun.
Tom and Jerry
A classic, Tom and Jerry showed the relentless struggle between a mouse and a cat. There was also a great friendship that we saw from time to time between the two, who had a very entertaining fight.
Looney Tunes
Looney Tunes, which includes many characters such as Bugs Bunny, Tweety and Sylvester, Tasmanian Devil, also made independent series for these characters. It had many hours of fun with its structure consisting of short episodes.
Red kit
The fight between the cowboy Red Kit, who draws a fast gun from his shadow, and especially the Daltons, his arch enemies, was the favorite of many. Many references made in this cartoon were things we understood as we grew up and learned about world history.
Yogi Bear
Yogi, the troublemaker of Yellowstone, would not only give the rangers a hard time, but also bunk into everyone’s picnic sandwiches with Bobo. Yogi, who was almost a Yellowstone mafia, was among the unforgettable with his funny speech.
Laff-A-Lympics
Laff-A-Lympics Olympics, which also came to Turkey in one episode, was a series in which we watched various races between Yogis, Scooby-Doos and Real Villains. The Real Villains team would constantly cheat and get punished. Of course, in a boat race, one questions why it is not cheating to fly the boat with magic, while attaching a motor to the boat is a cheat, but whatever.
Beyblade
This series was also very popular, with kids smashing spinning tops and causing all sorts of creatures to mess around. Beyblade spinning tops that were sold were among the toys that children collided with on every street corner at that time. Those spinning tops never gave the air of the cartoon, but oh well.
Scooby-Doo
It was a series in which all creatures were ultimately revealed to be human. In the production, which centers on Scooby Doo and Shaggy, the characters would solve the mysterious events they encountered in each episode, and would remove the mask of the last villain they caught, saying “Let’s see who X actually is”.
Batman The Animated Series
Perhaps the best animated series ever made was Batman The Animated Series. Despite the fact that Batman Beyond is a very popular series, there was no substitute for this series. It was different from the cartoons of the period with its dark atmosphere.
Spider-Man
It was a production where we watched the adventures of our neighborhood’s friendly Spider-Man. We saw many classic Spider-Man characters and stories in this production. “Am I the ravioli?” Peter says when the Punisher attacks Spider-Man with garlic gas. It is also a unique series with its magnificent localizations.
Stone Age
The Stone Age, where we watched the stories of Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble and their families, also left its mark on a period. The series by Hanna-Barbera had great success. Later, the characters had children and their families expanded.
Jetsons
Another Hanna-Barbera cartoon was The Jetsons. We were accompanying the lives of the Jetgil family in this cartoon, which offers a solution to Istanbul traffic with its flying and folding cars.
Mask
The Mask, the alter-ego of innocent, hopeless lover Stanley Ipkiss, was revealed through Loki’s mask. Although Our Mask loves trolling and buffoonery, apart from Stanley, the evil inside the person wearing the mask was revealed.
Inspector Gadget
Inspector Gadget, a man like a Swiss Army Knife with various tools coming out of his right and left, was deciphering very ingenious plans with the help of clumsiness and luck, and flying away with the propeller coming out of his head.
Richie Rich
Richie Rich, as his name suggests, was a rich character. Richie, whose father’s fortune is billions of dollars, would embark on various adventures with his friends, dog and butler. He was faster than Steve Jobs in having that much money and wearing the same thing every day.
Smurfs
It focused on the story of Smurfs, little blue creatures, and Gargamel who tried to eat them, allegedly advertising communism in countries that supported capitalism, and capitalism in communist countries.
Snoopy
It was a series where all children are children, their problems are children’s problems, but sometimes adults can find something to appeal to them. It was also home to popular characters like Charlie Brown.
Winnie the Pooh
It was a series about the friendships of a needlessly happy teddy bear, a depressed donkey, a hyperactive tiger, a paranoid pig and a neurotic rabbit with a boy named Christopher Robin.
X-Men the Animated Series
This anime series, in which Wolverine couldn’t swear and used to talk like Leyla and Majnun, brought the characters and stories from the X-Men comics to the screen. It was a production that told most of the stories better than the movies. The only thing better than the show itself was the insanely crazy Japan intro.
