18,000 kilometers: Nürnberger wants to ride as far as China | Regional

Nuremberg – Jürgen Dirrigl (52) from Nuremberg wants to ride his horse to the Great Wall of China.

He has just set off on a 35-day test ride that will take him 900 kilometers through Germany – from Hof in Upper Franconia to Lübeck. This should show whether the 52-year-old and his gelding Peu are well prepared for the long journey to China.

“That is exactly the constant load,” says Dirrigl on the mobile phone. Because the daily stages are planned as on the trip to China: Always 30 kilometers a day, with a total of five days of rest in between.

And during the journey along the former German-German border, a travel companion accompanies Dirrigl in an all-wheel-drive truck that has been converted into a mobile home.

This will also transport feed for Peu, which Dirrigl says will be necessary from Eastern Anatolia at the latest.

On his ride, Dirrigl wants to attract 10,000 potential stem cell donors. During his route he planned several typing campaigns together with the German stem cell donor database of the Red Cross.

Dirrigl will then set off on the almost 18,000-kilometer journey to China in the coming year.
