Dusseldorf Vodafone wants to cut around 1,300 full-time jobs in Germany. Administrative and management positions are particularly affected. This was said by the company’s new Germany boss, Philippe Rogge, to the Handelsblatt.

“If we want to finance our ambitions, we have to take this painful step,” said Rogge, who is also a member of the group’s board of directors in London. At the same time, the Belgian announced a “restart” for his company. He wants to make Deutsche Telekom’s most important competitor leaner and still more powerful.

Up to 400 new jobs are to be created at the same time. Rogge plans to upgrade major customer projects or to strengthen technology and network operations. The bottom line is that around 6.3 percent of the 14,230 full-time jobs in Germany will be cut. The company is to dispense with the advertising word “Giga” coined by its predecessor Hannes Ametsreiter in the future.
