”Apple has finally announced its hybrid glasses, so I want to talk a little bit about that. I was really wondering what they would send. And frankly I haven’t seen it yet, so I’ll learn more as I play with it and see what it is and how people are using it.
From what I saw at first, the good news is that there is no magic solution that our teams haven’t discovered and thought about before. They went with a higher resolution display, seven times more expensive than all their technology, and now requires so much energy that you now need a battery and a cable attached to it to use it.
But look, the difference in the values and vision that our companies bring to this is really important. We innovate to make our products as accessible and affordable to everyone as possible, and it’s a core part of what we do. We’ve sold tens of millions of Quests.”
”More importantly, our vision of the metaverse and being is fundamentally social. It’s about people interacting in new ways and feeling closer in new ways. Our device is also about being active and doing things. Rather, every demo they showed was a single person sitting on a couch. I mean, this may be a vision of the future of computing, but that’s not what I want.
There is a real philosophical difference in how we approach this. And I was even more excited to see what they put out there and how they were going to compete, and I was optimistic in many ways that what we do is important and will be successful. But it will be a fun journey.”
