Xbox banned third party accessories!

Microsoft has implemented a system-level ban on third-party accessories for Xbox consoles in an effort to prevent online cheating facilitated by certain external devices. Users who encounter error code 0x82d60002 when connecting certain accessories are now informed that unauthorized accessory use compromises their gaming experience.

After two weeks, Xbox is completely cutting third-party accessory support

After two weeks, the accessory will be permanently blocked with error code 0x82d60003 and users will be asked to contact the seller or manufacturer for assistance. This ban targets “passthrough” controller devices like the Titan and Cronus, which have legitimate functions like button remapping and cross-platform controller support, but can also enable hard-to-detect cheating methods.

Xbox approved accessory manufacturers

Many gaming companies, including Bungie, Ubisoft, Epic Games and Activision, have also restricted hardware that provides a competitive advantage in online gaming. While Microsoft’s ban supports these efforts, it unfortunately also limits the use of these controllers in single-player games.

Xbox achieves record gaming revenue in first quarter, but console sales aren't doing well

Xbox achieves record gaming revenue in first quarter, but console sales aren’t doing well

Xbox posted record gaming revenue in the first quarter of this year, boosted by AAA games and Game Pass, but hardware sales fell.

Although it is nice that when you turn on your Xbox and enter an online game, you will no longer see a player with a keyboard + mouse connected to the console, it is sad that we will no longer be able to use a cheaper controller, especially in our country.

The move also protects Microsoft’s official Xbox accessory business, as unauthorized controllers with similar features are generally more affordable. Microsoft is at least increasing the value of the “Designed for Xbox” label by taking advantage of licensees such as PowerA and 8BitDo. Unlike Sony, which restricts the PS4 controller’s compatibility with the PS5 to encourage the use of new features, Microsoft is ensuring compatibility between Xbox One and Series S/X accessories.

However, this policy had unintended consequences for various gaming communities. Accessory maker Brook has warned users of potential outages due to Microsoft’s latest system update affecting its “Fight Boards” series used for low-latency connections with mainstream fight sticks.

Additionally, accessibility advocates face challenges as bans on third-party accessories hinder their ability to play mainstream games with the help of sighted people. The official Adaptive Remote may not meet all individual needs, which could lead to discussions about potential legal action on accessibility grounds.
