Winners & losers of the Corona and Ukraine crisis

Berlin Hardly any other country has been hit as hard as Germany by the effects of the Ukraine war. The meager 0.1 percent growth of the German economy in the second quarter is just one example of this. Overall, after two and a half years of the Corona and Ukraine crisis, the Federal Republic is one of those countries in the world that are particularly vulnerable to crises. This is the result of calculations by the Ifo Institute for the Handelsblatt.

Ifo economics chief Timo Wollmershäuser and his team have looked at how the corona crisis and the Ukraine war have affected the gross domestic product (GDP) of various countries. And there is hardly an industrial nation that performs as badly as Germany.

First, the corona crisis set the German economy back for three winters in a row. The Russian war of aggression in Ukraine is now affecting the country because of its high level of dependence on Russian energy supplies.
