It has become clear when Wi-Fi 7, the latest standard of wireless networks, will be completed and released. Wi-Fi Alliance has confirmed that Wi-Fi 7, based on IEEE 802.11be technology, will complete its final preparation stages and when it is expected to be officially released.
Wi-Fi 7 will be released towards the end of the first quarter of 2024
Wi-Fi 7 is set to bring a significant leap in network speeds compared to its predecessor, Wi-Fi 6. Devices that support Wi-Fi 7 are already available for purchase, but the official release will allow users to fully utilize the untapped potential in Wi-Fi adapters.
Wi-Fi Alliance emphasizes that Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 will enable worldwide interoperability and unlock advanced Wi-Fi performance for the next generation of connected devices.
One of the highlights of Wi-Fi 7 is its incredible top speed of 40Gbps, which is a significant improvement over Wi-Fi 6’s top speed of 9.6Gbps. This increase has been achieved by the inclusion of a new 6 GHz frequency band, complementing the known 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands. The introduction of this additional frequency band allows Wi-Fi 7 to deliver significantly faster speeds, reportedly 4.8 times faster than Wi-Fi 6.
It is important for users who already have devices that support Wi-Fi 7 to remember that they are using the “draft” version of the standard. However, this will not significantly affect performance for home use. Devices with draft versions will receive firmware updates to be compatible with the final standard to ensure a smooth transition to the full features of Wi-Fi 7.
Wi-Fi 7 routers are already available, allowing early adopters to prepare for the upcoming release and take advantage of the breakthrough speeds offered by the new standard. With its ability to support the growing demands of connected devices in homes and businesses, Wi-Fi 7 is poised to revolutionize the home networking experience and provide users with faster, more reliable connections.
