Well, here we are in our living rooms, withdrawn into the familiar, warm and contemplative for Christmas. Also relieved that there is still gas that the government hastily and not without selfishness bought together on the world markets.
And of course we are plagued by the thoughts of this war. We think of the people who are holding out in hypothermic apartments and are afraid that the next deadly rockets will soon strike. People who know the horrifying images of torture chambers, mass graves, mutilated corpses and destroyed cities in those Ukrainian lands that are or were under Russian control.
We think of the people at the front who are fighting a heroic battle for the freedom of their families, their compatriots – and to a certain extent for ours too. A battle that Western military experts said at the start of the war was unwinnable, under any circumstances.
