Why the Schwarze & Schlichte distillery has been cultivating change since 1664

The 36-year-old has been running Schwarze und Schlichte, the oldest family-run distillery in Germany, since 2022.

oil “If we still had to make a living from grain today, we wouldn’t exist anymore,” says Katharina Schwarze as she unlocks the big blue gate to the old distillery. The boiler is still standing, otherwise the hall is empty. Korn has not been distilled in Oelde for almost nine years.

Katharina Schwarze joined the company in 2016. Since 2022 she has been the 13th generation to manage the Schwarze und Schlichte distillery. She wants to remodel the parent company in Oelde: put on a new facade, renovate the halls and create an event location – with the charm of the old distillery. Only the barrel cellar should be preserved. The “Alte Schneider”, a grain of wheat, is still lying there in an oak barrel.
